Harry Gow Love Local Scotland!

Did you have a surprise parcel turn up at your door recently?

Individuals up and down Scotland were given the chance to enter a competition from Co-op where they could win one Love Local box for them and one for a friend. Co-op also worked closely with store colleagues and member pioneers to nominate areas within each community or individuals who deserved a treat which came in the form of a Love Local box!

When the team at Harry Gow were initially approached about the campaign, we knew we had to get involved – we have always promoted the importance of using local suppliers within our very own bakery ingredients as well as supporting our local communities as best we can, be it by way of donations or passing on the full current VAT reduction on to our customers on our hot bakes, for example soup, paninis, pies and sausage rolls!

Not only that, we are proud owners of two ‘Taste Our Best’ awards, for our North Kessock and Dornoch Stores – these are provided to food-outlets such as takeaways like our Harry Gow stores as a nod of recognition from Visit Scotland for offering a quality food and drink experience and actively including and promoting Scottish produce.

The Love Local Scotland campaign involved the provision of boxes, which were made up of several Scottish food products from suppliers such us Pipers, Mrs Tilly’s, Mackie’s and Scottish Blend Tea – these were produced and delivered by Co-op who recognise that now more than ever, supporting local is a priority.

Several bakeries were involved too – depending on the area where the boxes were to be delivered, these included; McGhee’s, Lamonds, Fords, Argyll, JG Ross, Stephens and Harry Gow – we provided nearly 1,800 packets of our buttery, melt in your mouth shortbread!

Emma Aitken, Marketing and Communications at Co-Op enthused;

“The @coopuk #LoveLocalScotland campaign has been a great success and enabled us to engage with a number of local communities. Together we have been able to celebrate local producers and suppliers, support communities, be a good neighbour and make a difference locally.”
