We believe it was the three musketeers who famously said, all for one and one for all! And although the only swords we own come in the form of baguettes – and rather than horses we have Highland cows – the Harry Gow team can completely relate to these characters.
As many of you will remember, we asked for your votes in the Scottish Baker of the Year’s Customer Choice award and thanks to every single one of you who took the time to do this, we can now call ourselves the winners of the Retail Craft Baker Category. With the support of you, our incredible customers, friends and (in many ways) our extended family, we certainly feel that this is a triumph for us all. Just like the musketeers it's been all for bun and bun for all – or something like that!
We’re also thrilled to have taken home the trophy for Scotland’s best individual cake, the vanilla and raspberry slice… known to its friends as the birthday cake slice! This triumph comes after a gruelling assessment against many other delicious baked goods from 57 skilled bakers across the country. Our fan-favourite slice was judged on appearance, quality of bake and – of course – taste, before being crowned the overall winner in Scotland.
Our other awards from the night include:
The Viennoiserie National Silver Award for our croissants.
The Celebration Cake National Bronze Award for our SBOTY cake.
The Bread (Sourdough) Regional Silver Award for our sourdough loaf.
And finally, the Biscuit Regional Bronze Award for our empire biscuit.
Not that we’re boasting!
But from an extremely proud team at Harry Gow, let us say a final thank you for your continued support – we couldn’t do it without you. We hope to see you all soon to get your hands on some of our award winning craft bakes!
Oh my word. Most laybys have no facilities, some have a burger van but this one has a bakery! What a find this is, hot food and drinks with the addition of bakers delights, all with virtually no calories whatsoever...
What a lovely place to stop for a breakfast sandwich and there bakery products are out of this this world, The ladies in the shop are a credit to themselves, always polite with a lovely smile on their face. I love coming here and upon leaving the shop I'm already looking forward to my return
We're on a road trip of Scotland, we got there as it was closing on a rainy Monday lunchtime so we took what they had left but it was amazing! My husband says it's the best steak pie he's ever had, I had lentil and bacon soup with a bread roll and it was lovely. The only downside is that we're now heading south west away from where they have shops, gutted!
Good food at a decent price. What else do you need. Sausage rolls are nice too. Especially cold.
Slick and friendly service. Apple turnovers are a delight and the bacon rolls are worth the visit alone.
Sausage rolls are amazing so are the cakes 😍
I'm visiting relatives in Inverness this weekend and they bought some of your scotch pies. I can honestly say they are by far the best I've ever tasted. I'll be pestering them to buy more next time I visit! Just a pity you don't have some bakeries down in Perth!
Greeted with a smile and quickly served. Tasty tea and coffee, very pleased they listened to the request for 'only small amount of milk in both. The food was well priced and marzipan 'apples' yummy. A good quick stop-over
Very allergens friendly. Tastes good too
One thing that inspires me to hike to Brora is a hot Harry Gow Sausage Roll. Beautiful baked goods using local ingredients. A must visit if you are passing through.
I’ve visited Harry Gow Dornoch on numerous occasions. The staff are alway always (repetition intentional :-)) nice and the produce is always fresh and tasty. Steak pies, chunky or smooth are to die for. Tried my first Dream Ring today ... one for sharing.
It’s a good job we found the bakery on the penultimate day of our holidays so that we only had 2 days for repeat visits. My kids haven’t stopped talking about it, I haven’t stopped thinking about the marzipan apples. We’ll probably come on holiday to Inverness again just for Harry Gow’s. Such a delicious bakery.
Really fresh food with plenty of choice. Helpful and chatty staff were great. We had tomato soup, sausage rolls, pies and fruit tart in our group, everything was great. I recommend you find a bench in the town to enjoy your food.
I love Harry Gow bread, especially the oaten loaf. Their cakes are so fresh and tasty, just like and often better than home baking - favourites are the fresh cream jam sponge and the fern cake. Mmmmmmmm. My husband and son love Harry's pies and sausage rolls while I am very partial to his potato scones, soft and scrumptious - just like my mum used to make. It's a family bakery loved by all my family.
I have visited the Keith shop several times. Each time I visit I receive friendly service and the food is always spot on. Staff make you feel valued as a customer!
I love the food at Harry Gow’s and especially i look forward to the delicious Tomato soup on Fridays ...their freshly made rolls and pies are also very tasty... but I so wish I was informed as to the fat/sugar contents in their food...
Excellent bakery. Great products and service. We are doing a trip in Scotland (we are from Barcelona, Spain) and this is the best coffee/bakery place that we have visited. Excelente trabajo! Una maravilla! Great job!
Outstanding bakery! Better than Greggs of course. Lots of fresh delicious food including sandwiches, cakes, pastries, hot food and breakfast food. Staff are always very nice and service is very quick. Recommended to everyone!
